Basketball
Basketball was invented in 1891 by James W. Naismith of US, who was then an instructor. In 1936 in Berlin, basketball made its first appearance as a medal sport at the Olympics, and the sport has been included in every Olympic Games since then. In 1976, women's basketball was added to the program. Basketball is one of the sports which appeared all the time since the 1st Asian Games in 1951 in New Delhi.
The match court shall be a flat, stark playing surface without any obstacles, and the dimension is 28m x 15m.
Basketball is played in 4 periods of 10 minutes each. Five-minute overtimes follow if a game is tied at the end of the fourth period until one team wins. The number of substitution replacement is unlimited; Two time-outs may be granted to each team at any time during the first half; three at any time during the second half and one during each extra period (overtime). The rules breaking during the competition includes violation and foul. Violation includes traveling, a double dribble, carrying or kicking, 3-second violation etc; while foul includes defensive fouls, offensive fouls, technical fouls, etc.
