Asian Games Sports : BASEBALL

Baseball

Baseball derived from England cricket. After its early development in the United States, professional teams and leagues were later formed. Men’s Baseball became a full medal Olympic sport in 1992, while since the 12th Asian Games in Hiroshima it was an official competition sport.
The competition area consists of infield and outfield. The infield and outfield, including the boundary lines, are fair territory and all other area is foul territory. The infield shall be a 90 foot (27.43m) square. The distance from home base to the nearest fence, stand or other obstruction on fair territory shall be 250 feet (76.20m) or more. The baseball player shall be equipped for protection. The catcher need to wear not only helmet and shin guards, but also the knee pads and equipped for throat protection.
Two teams of nine players take it in turns to bat through nine innings each. The batting side aims to score runs by sending a batsman through four equally spaced bases on the diamond-shaped field of play. Their opponents aim to end the innings by getting three batsmen out, either by catching, strikeouts or tagging. At the end of nine innings, the team with most runs wins. If draws, then the match continue until one team wins. It usually takes about 3 hours for a baseball match.
